The MPS (Mazda Performance Series) is the brand's development of its standard cars, for those who like some sizzle with their steak.

For the Hiroshima-based company, there's a lot of pride riding on the MPS variant.

Mazda intends to wave the MPS wand over other models in its stable, with the youthful Mazda3 and RX-8 likely to get a sporty MPS variant in the future.

For now, the Mazda6 MPS is the most powerful sedan the company has built. It is powered by an intercooled, turbocharged version of the regular 2.3-litre engine, developing 190 kW and 380 Nm and fed through a new six-speed manual gearbox.

And that's just the start of the modifications.
